The Management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has offered to join the National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), in its fight against abuse of drugs, especially among youths.
Vice-Chancellor of the Institutions, Professor Michael Ologunde, dropped the hint while playing host to the Area Commander of the Agency in Ogbomoso, Mr Aminu Yusuff Ahmed, accompanied by its team, that the nation can no longer continue to watch the future of its youths get destroyed.
While promising to support the Agency and the Drug Free Club of the University in the area of sensitizing students on the negative effects of drugs on their career, he said the University will henceforth make it mandatory for intending leaders of the Students’ Union to undergo drug test before they are certified qualify to contest for whatever position.
Earlier in his address, the area commander had told the Vice-Chancellor the high prevalence of drug abuse in Oyo State and Ogbomoso, explaining that students are responsible for the high figures that the Agency have had to contend with.
He added that rather than expel culprits, “we will appreciate your making use of both our counseling and rehabilitation centres as a means of recovering anybody arrested from the path of peril”
