A farmer breaks open an unusually large egg to reveal a second fully-formed egg inside of it.
QINHUANGDAO, China, June 20 (UPI) -- A Chinese farmer cracked open an unusually large chicken's egg to discover its bizarre contents -- a second fully-formed egg.
The Qinhuangdao farmer said one of his chickens recently laid a pair of mammoth eggs and he decided to crack one of them on camera to determine its contents.
The video shows farmer crack the large egg to reveal a yolk, the egg white and a second fully-formed egg.
"I've never seen an egg within another egg in more than 60 years of farming," a witness told CCTV News.
Experts said the phenomenon occurs when a second egg begins to form inside the chicken while her body is already in the process of producing an egg.
