The Lagos State Government has told the
state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, to move out some
policemen attached to the Lagos State Task Force on Environmental and
Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the
request followed last Friday’s raids in different parts of Lagos by the
affected policemen, which involved rough treatment and arrests of
innocent citizens.
The Commissioner for Information and
Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, on Tuesday said the state Governor,
Akinwunmi Ambode, wanted an immediate redeployment of the officers from
the unit and possibly from the state over the “unacceptable conduct.”
Ayorinde said, “The request became necessary in order to checkmate the recurrence of the unathorised raid.
“Preliminary investigation showed that
the unauthorised raid was carried out with the knowledge of the
second-in-command to the task force Chairman, SP Taiwo Adeoluwa, without
the approval of the Chairman, SP Saheed Egbeyemi.
“The conduct of the affected officers is
not in tandem with the vision of Lagos State Government. Their conduct
is also unbecoming of officers who are expected to protect the
citizenry.”
