EFCC Grills Two Ex-Ministers Over $115m Diezani Cash

Two former ministers – Mohammed Wakil and Abdu Bulama – were yesterday guests of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over the $115 million public fund allegedly deployed for the 2015 general elections by a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke.

Wakil was immediate past Minister of State for Power while Bulama was Minister of Science and Technology. Both were also campaign coordinators of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for Borno and Yobe state respectively during the last presidential election.
According to a source at the EFCC, the former ministers claimed to have received N450 million each, paid through Fidelity Bank from another former Finance Minister, Senator Nenadi Usman, for use in funding the PDP presidential election in their respective states.

Messrs. Wakil and Bulama, who were quizzed individually, also told investigators that they shared the campaign funds based on what they called “template” sent from Abuja.

Prominent among those who received their “share” of the funds are a former Minister of State for Finance, Yarima Ngama, who allegedly received N70, 470, 000 through one Alhaji Hassan Ibn Jaks in Yobe State and Senator Ali Modu Sheriff (N40m) through one Hon. Komalia for “Security”.

As at the time of publishing this report, it was learnt that the two ex-ministers are still in the custody of the EFCC in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
